Small DC Motor Speed Controller Circuit Diagram
Simple Electronic Applications February 14th, 2010Many type of motor controller have been designed to provide variable speed drives for the motor. The electric motor has also been widely used as a motion control. Among others, the best motor controller is servo controller. In servo controller, a precise speed control is implemented using a speed sensor in the feedback path. In this article, the circuit of the motor using a simple method to control the motor. The motor circuit uses the back electromotive force sensing in order to keep the motor rpm at a constant value. The motor speed controller is suitable for 3V battery operated devices, for example the portable audio cd player, portable cassette player, which keep the motor rpm to be constant. In this circuit, the motor power should be in low power type to avoid excessive heating. It is because this circuit is not a PWM motor control. Herein the schematic circuit diagram :
At the final output, the motor driver is integrated inside an IC. This is ideal for low component count solution. Different with a servo controller, the motor speed is not kept at a very tight reference because the feedback in not coming from a speed sensor, but only detect the dc motor’s emf generation in order to maintain the motor speed at a fairly constant value.[Source : STMicroelectronics Application Notes]
