The following circuit is can be used to control the speed of sewing machine or mixer motor. It will be effective to use simple half wave motor speed control with small universal ac/dc motors. The maximum current capability is the two amps RMS. The control gives a perfect torque characteristics to the motor. This is due to speed dependent feedback even at low rotation speed. Normal operation at maximum speed can be achieved by closing switch S1 and bypassing the SCR. Here is the circuit diagram :
